The 2024 Race and Sports event returns thanks to a partnership between the Wharton Coalition for Equity and Opportunity, the Center for Africana Studies, and the Wharton Sports Analytics and Business Initiative (WSABI).

We are thrilled to announce the speaker for this year’s event is William “Bill” Rhoden, former award-winning sports columnist for The New York Times and author of Forty Million Dollar Slaves: The Rise, Fall and Redemption of the Black Athlete, and Third and A Mile: The Trials and Triumphs of The Black Quarterback.

He currently serves as a writer-at-large for ESPN’s Andscape, where he acts as a columnist and oversees the Rhoden Fellowship, a program that identifies and trains aspiring African-American journalists from Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Rhoden was elected into the National Sports Media Association’s Hall of Fame in January 2021.

Reception to follow. Food will be provided.

*Please note that registration does not guarantee admission. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
